Not Oprah's Book Club

Who else an avid reader of mostly trashy novels?    I honestly used to devour at least two books a week but in the past couple of years that has slowed down a lot, mainly because I don't seem to have as much downtime.  Or maybe it's more like I use my downtime for other things rather than reading.  That's all about to change!

I used to be a regular at our public library, the librarians all knew me by name!  Then in 2010 my hubby got me a Kobo for my birthday and I fell in love with the whole concept of e-readers.  I took that thing with me everywhere!   A few years later hubby surprised me with my first iPad for Christmas so I handed my Kobo down to my dad (who is also an avid reader) and my iPad became my latest and greatest e-reader.  I still miss the trips to the library, browsing the aisles and finding new authors.  I still use the library but it's from the comfort of my couch.

I also have a group of friends and although we don't actually have a real life book club (we all live hours apart) we always share our latest and greatest authors and books in an email group.  We have been doing this for years, originally with real life paper books and then gradually everyone made the move to e-readers.  It's kind of sad and I do still read the occasional physical book but I guess it's the convenience factor, I mean I used to have to bring a box full of books to get through the summer or risk paying for extra weight in baggage when we went on vacation!

I am currently counting the days until we head north for some long periods of uninterrupted time July and August and my iPad is fully loaded with books.  I have a very eclectic taste when it comes to reading, I love pretty much anything from biographies to suspense, dramas to true crime with the occasional trashy romance tossed in for good measure!  My hubby is an avid summertime reader too so we are quite happy to sit on our deck, reading our books, enjoying the laid back, quiet life style we enjoy so much.

I did finish a book I really loved last week by a fave author of mine, Jane Green.  She's a British author and there is just something about the way she tells a story.  Her latest book "Falling" was a nice easy read, it made me laugh and even made me cry. She's a great story teller and always keeps me coming back for more.  You should definitely add her to your summer reading list, all of her books are great.

Another favourite author of mine is Sarah Pekkanen. Her books have just the right combo of drama and suspense to keep you turning the pages.  Her latest book, "The Wife Between us"  that she cowrote withGreer Hendricks was so good, the plot twist definitely made my jaw drop!  It was one of those ones that made you think "wait a minute, did I miss something?" and had me flipping back a few pages!  Sarah's books are all sooo good, i've read them all!

And one last recommendation i'll leave you with is "The Woman in the Window" by A.J. Finn.  This is the first book by this author I learned and I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I took it with me to Cuba in March.  Very suspenseful and dark and dramatic, another one with plot twists you definitely don't see coming!

I have so many favourite authors, I could go on and on and on.  I think I will make this a monthly thing on my blog...I'll share my top 3 favourite recent reads with you guys.  And maybe you can return the favour and leave me a comment with a recommendation of your own?

One thing is for sure, i've made a promise to myself that this summer i'm going to stop the mindless scrolling on my phone and pick up a book instead because even a trashy novel is better then hours on social media right?

Happy reading!
