Our Uncluttered House

Have You Heard the News?

I’m sure by now you’ve heard our exciting news but incase you haven’t, Our Uncluttered House has been selected as one of the designers in the 2018 Jeffrey Court Fall Renovation Challenge!

Believe me when I say it has definitely been a “Challenge”! But we are plugging away, learning things we never thought we would need to learn, using tools we never thought we’d use. For example, I thought a chisel was a chisel, why do they have to call them different names? Paring Chisel, Bevel Edge Chisel, Cold Chisel, etc. We needed a “Cold” chisel (is there a Hot Chisel too?) to work with tiles, little did I know how UN-easy it would be to find when I went to my local Home Depot because they had an entire wall of chisels! Unbeknownst to me hubby says he has a gazillion chisels but since he still doesn’t have his tools organized from our move (4 years ago) so we bought another one to add to his collection. (I’m already thinking our next DIY is going to be to organize his workshop)!

As well as using new tools, we’ve also learned everything and more about removing and installing ceramic and porcelain tiles. We now know what Backer Board is, mortar, thin set, rubber float and we really know that when the instructions on the pre-mixed grout says it dries in 1-4 minutes, it’s true!

We have been working SOOOOO hard on this reno, it’s a small space but it’s going to pack a big punch when it’s done. It’s one of those DIY projects that is turning out better than I had planned in my head and on my to-do lists. LikeI’m talking, I can’t even believe we’ve done this!! As we’ve been working along and I tell hubby what the next part of step is, he sometimes says “i don’t know about that, or I don’t know how that’s going to look”, and then when he finishes it, being the smart ass that he is, he always says “so glad I thought of that”!

Honestly, like most of you already know, I would never be able to do the majority of the DIY’s we tackle around here and up north without my hubby being on board. He does ALL the physical work, the lifting and moving and hammering and laying tiles, etc. All things I wish I could do, but am physically not able with my MS. I am however, right there beside him, every step of the way giving him morale support, even when he swears like a trucker! Sometimes he even lets me shoot the nail gun, and I’m great at holding one end of the measuring tape or the level, he’s good that way :) I come up with all the ideas, I do the paperwork side of things, reaching out to sponsors, writing the blog posts, keeping us organized and on track while Alan makes my dream projects become a reality. We make a great team and are turning our house into a cozy home along the way.

Here is a link to our reno challenge, everything that goes down will go down on this website! You can also check out our competition here as well, I can’t wait to see what everyone is working on because we are up against some serious talent! Click the link and save it to your Bookmarks and on Wednesday you can start checking in. Don’t worry, if you forget I will remind you, I’m good that way.

We will be revealing our space on Wednesday, October 3 right here on the Blog and my social media channels. Starting October 18th there will be FAN VOTING and that’s where you guys come in, we will need all your votes! The grand prize is a $5000 Dream Vacation and I think you will all agree, my poor hubby will need it by the time this reno is over!!

Stay tuned, keep following along and leave me a comment on the Blog today and let me know which space you think we are renovating for this Challenge:)

I’m dying to give you a sneak peak but you have to wait a few more days!
