QUICK & EASY DIY TRIPOD FLOOR LAMP
Most of you know we bought and sold a house back in January and spent almost three months purging and packing to get ready for the move (see my earlier post on Tips for Moving!).
Some things were easy to part with, others not so much. A few things I kept “just in case” and this old plastic $20 floor lamp from Walmart is one of them and now i’m super glad I kept it!
I have been looking for a nice tripod style floor lamp for our new home and you can’t find one for less than a $100 which I’m sorry, I would NEVER spend on a lamp, like ever! I’ve even been perusing my favourite buy and sell sites and had no luck. You guys know I am not one to ever give up on a design idea and will always try to find the thriftiest way to make it happen!
While doing some shopping last week and drooling over floor lamps I saw a beautful big drum style lamp shade at Homesense Canada for $19.99. A lightbulb went off in my head (excuse the pun) and I quickly threw it in my cart and brought it home.
I dragged the old plastic $20 tripod Walmart lamp up from the basement, gave it a wipe down and voila, a beautiful new tripod floor lamp all for the price of the $20 lamp shade (since we’ve had this lamp for like 10 years)!
I literallty sat the new drum shade onto of the white plastic shade already on the lamp so you will need a shade with the support pieces across the top like mine. It didn’t sit totally even so I used a small piece of adhesive felt meant for furniture legs to balance it out.
There you have it, another thrifty DIY for you guys. If you have one of these lamps you can easily transform it, if not, let me tell you, there are TONS of this style lamp on many buy and sell groups and thrift stores. I bet you could easily find one. If you do, be sure to let me know!
