ADDING FUNCTIONALITY & PERSONALITY TO A SMALL LAUNDRY ROOM/MUDROOM

A HUGE thank you to Behr Paint for sponsoring this post and this project!  My favourable opinions of this amazing paint are all my own!

Moving right along in our painting game over here, we conquered a smaller space this past week since time was limited with Easter falling at the end of the week. Me and my OCD are determined to finish one room a week in the house and nothing will throw us off track!

Our laundry room/mudroom made the cut this week!  It was a pretty functional space when we moved in three weeks ago with not a lot of wall space to paint but paint it we did because you guessed it, it had a “barely there” single coat of builder grade primer on the walls. Even though it was “light” it looked dirty and dingy.  Our driveway and garage are at the rear of our home so this is where we come in and out on a daily basis.  I wanted to clean it up and give it a fresh new look.

This room flows from the rear of the house, out into the kitchen/dining area which has recently been painted in BEHR MARQUEE® “Off White” (in an Eggshell finish), so we decided our best bet was to carry this same colour through.  Despite it being a high traffic area, we already know BEHR MARQUEE® is very durable and scrubs like a dream so bring on the dirty boots, shoes and dogs!

Plus I knew I would do some type of feature wall in this space to bring in a pop of colour and add some personality.

As you can see, there wasn’t much wall space to paint, most of it was tedious, cutting in work and doing trim.  The trim continues to be painted in BEHR MARQUEE® Ultra Pure White in a Semi-Gloss finish.  We also painted the insides of the two exterior doors in this area as they were quite scratched up.    They needed a light sand and two good coats of paint and they now look great.  (The outsides of these doors are a different story altogether but that’s a project for summer!)

The walls also took two coats of paint since they were only primed, but again, the BEHR MARQUEE® line goes on so smoothly and is a thicker paint, the coverage is phenomenal, even when most of this room was done with a brush.  It’s truly amazing.

We do plan on adding some colour to our interior doors in the coming weeks so maybe that will help my colour loving heart embrace another room that is light and bright.  Otherwise I can see the lower cabinets getting a paint job later in the year, maybe with BEHR® Alkyd Satin Enamel.  You might remember the bathroom vanity I painted at our last house in BEHR® Alkyd  Blue Print . I absolutely loved it and it held up beautifully.

This was a powder room in our previous home, the vanity was painted with BEHR® Alkyd Blue Print I

This laundry room/mud room is one of the most used spaces in our home and thanks to a little bit of paint and some finishing touches, it’s now clean, bright and functional.

Stick around, we are just getting ready to start our next painting project….any guesses as to which room we are tackling next?

Michele
