CONVERTING A WALK-IN CLOSET TO A TEENAGERS SANCTUARY

A HUGE thank you to Behr Paint for sponsoring this post and this project!  My favourable opinions of this amazing paint are all my own!

As much as I have always dreamt about having a large, highly organized, walk-in closet like the one that was in the loft of our new house, sadly (for me), we needed to convert the space back into the 3rd bedroom it was intended to be.

This was the 3rd bedroom when we moved in 8 weeks ago!

This custom closet of my dreams needed to become a functional bedroom for our teenage son so we immediately made a plan and got to work. My husband removed two walls of the custom closet cabinetry (we left one wall as is since there is no closet in this room) which of course left a few large holes in the drywall. They were easily filled and sanded on two different occasions and then were ready for paint.

Now I’m normally all for letting my kids have a say in what colours they want their bedrooms painted but in this case, our youngest won’t be living here much longer and I didn’t want to have to deal with “dark brown walls and camo wallpaper” when he moves out!

After playing around in the BEHR COLOUR STUDIO we came to somewhat of a mutual agreement on paint colour and decided on BEHR MARQUEE® “Roadside” (MQ252) in an Eggshell finish. “Roadside” is in the brown family of colours but is more of a gray/brown, or even a green/brown in certain light. It packs a punch, but it isn’t too brown. It was the perfect compromise.

We did two coats on the walls and as usual, the coverage was optimal, especially with all of the drywall repairs we were covering. We also did one coat of BEHR MARQUEE® Ultra Pure White on the trim in a Semi-gloss finish. The bedroom door will eventually be painted  BEHR MARQUEE® “Limousine Leather” (MQ5-05) to match the main floor interior doors and will be the perfect finishing touch.

My husband and son weren’t as confident as I was that this walk-in closet could be converted back to a functional bedroom. I’m happy to report that everyone is in agreement that it couldn’t have turned out better! We reused a bed frame we already had, the desk was an epicycle from my old home office and there was no need for a dresser in this bedroom since we left one wall of the walk-in closet components. It was truly a win!

With a full three piece bathroom right next door and the big tv/gaming room steps away, the loft has quickly become a teenagers dream come true!

From walk-in closet to a teenagers bedroom

We have only been in this house for eight weeks and already it feels so much like home thanks a few gallons of paint. I have one last space to share with you guys next week so I hope you’ll stick around!
