Summer Getaway Decorating Ideas

We are very fortunate to have a beautiful summer place that we lovingly refer to as “up north”. It is a 2016 Northlander Reflection, and it is our home away from home. This is our third summer in her and we are slowly adding our own decorating and DIY touches to make her our own.

So far this season we have done a bathroom refresh which all started with these beautiful peel and stick backsplash tiles, called StickTILES® from Roommates Decor. The moment I saw them I knew they would be perfect for our teeny tiny bathroom up north and the rustic vibe we are adding to every room up there!

Chevron Distressed Wood StickTILES®

This was our second time using StickTILES® and they are so easy to use. My biggest tip is make sure your utility knife has a new/sharp blade and other than that you need a measuring tape, a surface to cut on (we used our kitchen cutting board!) and I like to use a level, even though hubby likes to “eyeball” it! If you are looking for some step by step instructions you can click here and head to the Roommates Decor super helpful tutorials!

Here are some before shots of our up north bathroom:

We also started out using some leftover track we had from a previous stone backsplash project and ended up removing it as it was too “bulky” for the peel and stick tiles.

We started out using this track but very quickly decided it was too bulky and removed it

Instead we picked up the smallest piece of trim we could get at Home Depot which was 5/16 x 1-1/54 x 7. It was pine and I was able to stain it a close match to the vanity, mirror and other trim in the bathroom. It wasn’t necessary, but it just gave the tile more of a finished look. We attached it with liquid nail.

Just the StickTILE itself gave the room a total transformation but we went onto swap out the faucet with this gorgeous matte black Glacier Bay faucet from Home Depot, added this new cottage themed shower curtain I found at Walmart for $16.97 and swapped out the bath mat and hand towels, all of which I already had back at home.

Such an easy and inexpensive room refresh that has totally transformed the space!

Some people ask “why do you care about changing things up north, it’s just a trailer”. To us, it’s our home away from home. We spend A LOT of time there from May-October so why not make it our own? It’s an extension of us, and y’all know we put the “D” in DIYers!

Next up on the “Summer Getaway Decorating Ideas” is giving our fireplace up north a little makeover using more of these gorgeous rustic chevron StickTILES. I’ll be sharing all the details right here next month!
