Furnishing a Home Office - Old & New

I’m not sure how it is already Week 6 of the One Room Challenge….I don’t feel i’ve accomplished much this week except refreshing the tracking information on my Rug that is “in transit”! Since it hasn’t made it from Texas to Ontario, i’ve had to do the old PIVOT and temporarily move the furniture pieces i’m incorporating into our space.

Let’s do a recap….we are converting this little nook at the bottom of our basement stairs into my Home Office!

We have painted, laid vinyl plank flooring, hung a mural , hung a barn door, replaced lighting. And in absence of the gorgeous area rug that is en route for this space, let’s instead talk about furniture!

I purchased two Eket four cube Ikea cabinets as well as two sets of legs. They are going to house all of the office supplies we are always looking for, as well as receipts, my printer, etc. Pretty and functional! I even purchased four Kuggis Baskets for the Eket, they hide the mess, for real!

I haven’t filled the baskets or styled these shelves at all, including hanging the cute Aleb Mirror by Jervy because the furniture will all have to be moved when the rug finally shows up…talk about doing things backwards!

And now onto my gorgeous desk. If you’ve been here awhile you’ve heard me talk about my friends at Simple Love Furniture. Marla’s purpose in life is to save all the furniture from our landfills and she does a damn good job! I have a few Simple Love pieces in our home and whenever i’m searching for something, I always hit them up. If Marla doesn’t have it. she will go picking until she finds it. In this case, I scored big with this gorgeous solid wood desk, made in Canada by Deilcraft Furniture. It actually came out of a hotel in Toronto!! Man, if this desk could talk!!!

Simple Love did their thing and brought her back to life with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and just enough chippiness to give it the warm vibe I love.

Another pivot I had to make along the way was ordering a replacement office chair. I had the most perfect yellow chair on order from Structure but it became backordered and the timelines were too tight to take a chance. I decided to go with this cute (and affordable) Rose coloured chair from Wayfair - it’s from the Kelly Clarkson line which is kinda fun!. And while you can’t see it now….the new rug has the most subtle pops of pink so trust me when I say it’s all going to flow beautifully.

I have so many fun pieces I have yet to share, I think i’m going to spray paint a filing cabinet, if I can get spray paint, hang what needs to be hung and continue to track my rug…please keep everything crossed for me!

And don’t forget to drop by the One Room Challenge website and catch up with all your faves. Trust me, if you are looking to be inspired in any room of your home, you’ll find it there!

Two more weeks to go, meet you here next Thursday!
