HOW MANY DIY'S ARE TOO MANY? WEEK 3 OF THE FALL RENO CHALLENGE!

HOW MANY DIY'S ARE TOO MANY? WEEK 3 OF THE FALL RENO CHALLENGE!

Never have I ever had so many projects going on simultaneously.   If you’ve been following me for a while, you know me and my OCD do NOT do well with chaos and disorder. But guess what? It’s not even bothering me this time, I’m totally calm, cool and collected....

Kidding! I’m STRESSED TO THE MAX!

This entryway makeover is definitely a work in progress and rather than bore you to DEATH with more details on the ongoing saga of removing ceramic tiles, how about I dish about how this space is gonna look when we’re done and maybe I’ll name drop just a couple of the awesome sponsors we are working with. I’m a little awestruck myself!

Ok here we go…

Board and batten has been a dream of mine for this narrow entryway since we bought this house four years ago and it’s finally becoming a reality.  That dream also includes a built in bench, I mean it just makes total sense to me, to maximize this narrow space.  Hubby says that a built in may be a stretch but I know he can do it, in fact I have so much faith in him I’ve already stained a slab of pine! How rustic does that sound? I’m also adding flat black hooks and switch plate covers in the space from Liberty Hardware.  I’m seriously swooning over these flat black products and after this Challenge I may change all my switch plate covers in the entire house!

And now get ready to be shocked.... I’m painting the board and batten WHITE! The first (and probably the only) white walls you’ll ever find in our house. And thanks to Behr Paint, I’m going with “Ultra White” so when I say white, I mean white! Stay tuned, I may need to wear sunglasses.

I’ve mentioned before that this little old bungalow of ours is such a wide-open concept it’s sometimes difficult to separate spaces, the entryway is no exception. So I’ve decided to add wallpaper above the board and batten to help not only separate the space, but brighten it as well. Yes friends, you read that right, WALL-PAPER! I can hear some of you gasping from here...trust me, when you get the scoop on what I’m using you’re gonna have your socks knocked off! RoomMates Decor has so many beautiful designs and can you believe I actually picked their MOST POPULAR ONE?  Obviously I’m not the only one with good taste.

And finally, I know I said I wasn’t going to talk tiles but I’m so damn COMMITTED I have to just give you a quick update. The backer board is installed and we are ready to lay the tiles...(and remember folks, when I say we, what do I really mean? Yep, you got it, “we” means “hubby”!). The tiles we chose for this space are beautiful Jeffrey Court porcelain 4x12 tiles in “Teakwood”. They seriously look like barn board, it’s like they were made especially for me and my rustic loving little heart. Remember how I told you we’ve never laid ceramic or porcelain tiles before?  True story, in fact we have never laid ANY kind of floor tiles so I’ll likely have some stories to share next week and the pictures to go along with it.

I’m also working on two smaller scale projects for this space with another one of our sponsors, Fusion Mineral Paint, one is a really old oak console table that had about five coats of paint on it and the other is the built in bench. I’m using Fusion’s “Coal Black” paint, which is such a rich, beautiful colour. It is tying in so nicely with their Stain and Finishing Oil I am using on the tabletop AND on the built in wood bench. I have used Fusion Mineral Paint several times but this is my first time using their Stain and Finishing Oil and I am super impresse

Now do you see what I mean when I say we have got A LOT of projects going on simultaneously? All the while I am trying to organize our house and keep on top of the mess that always comes with renos.  It will all be worth it in the end, this is going to be our biggest and best DIY EVER!!
