Leaky Pipes & Not Enough Wallpaper - The Bathroom Chronicles - ORC Week 3

Week three of the One Room Challenge is coming in hot (which is really week four for us since we are leaving for Nashville in two days to celebrate my, (cough, cough) BIG birthday! No pressure, it just means by the time we get back we have 15 days to finish the One Room Challenge. No biggie! Luckily my step-son bought me wine infused gummy bears for my birthday, they really take the edge off.

This week has been the most challenging for us and here’s why:

  • someone was supposed to come and help me paint the ceiling because ya know, my arms can be a bit wonky doing that kind of work thanks to my MS. Said person was a no show and because we have zero lighting in the bathroom at the present time and my hubby doesn’t get home from work until early evening (and i’m a tad stubborn) I tackled the project myself and have been paying the price ever since. Lesson learned the hard way again. But the ceiling is looking AMAZING! It’s painted “Mined Coal” by Behr Paint, the same colour that is on our bedroom walls. (see photo below)

  • We drove 100km (each way) Saturday morning to pick up our light fixtures from Living Lighting Canada, and the wrong fixtures had been sent to the store. These things happen and while the fixtures that came in error were drop dead gorgeous, they wouldn’t work in this space otherwise I would have gladly brought them home! It was not a wasted trip, i found some beautiful lighting for our loft AND the staff at the Richmond Hill location went ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. Our lights will be delivered to our door today or tomorrow so it’s ALL good.

  • And since bad luck always seem to come in threes, somehow I, the wallpaper queen, miscalculated when measuring for our accent wall way back in August and we are short two rolls of wallpaper. I know, I’m so mad at myself! The wall is half done, and the paper is so beautiful so just a minor setback. Luckily for me, another one of my amazing sponsors, Roommates Decor, are shipped me out my shortfall after a 911 email was sent out. We are hoping to be finished before we leave Saturday…fingers crossed!

The good news is, my hubby spent three weeks researching our plumbing needs, remember Joe at Home Depot? Well he’s visited two other Home Depot locations since he hung out with Joe and talked to their plumbing experts. One of them even called up a couple of You Tube videos and we were like “hey, thats our move”! But thanks to the multiple visits to Home Depot and a gazillion You Tube videos, he re-plumbed our master bath from one sink to two! When we tested the plumbing for leaks and drainage on Monday evening, sink number one was successful! Sink number two….we had a leak down below. Luckily my hubby was able to trace things back and troubleshoot the problem. He made another pit stop at Home Depot on his way home from work, spent another night under the sink, and we are back in business!

I’m so grateful that he is always willing to tackle these projects that he has zero prior experience with because without him, 99% of our home renovations would not be possible. I’m hearing that a lot from some of my fellow participants so let’s hear it for all the handy hubbies out there!

What’s next you may be wondering?

  • wallpaper

  • electrical - wiring for two vanity lights from one

  • paint the baseboard trim - I know, I know, I always do things backwards - it was a “i’m not sure” design decision, I needed to see things in place first!

  • paint touch ups

  • install new hardware on vanity

  • install new toilet

  • install roman blind

  • add all the finishing touches

It seems like a short list when in reality it’s miles long .

The electrical will be the next biggest job. I had really hoped that the electrical and plumbing would be completed before our trip but looks like that won’t happen….unless we are able to pull a rabbit out of our hat before our flight leaves at the crack of dawn on Saturday. You just never know!

I keep wondering if all of the 20 One Room Challenge Featured Designers are as stressed as I am? I feel like they are seasoned and are all calm, cool and collected….and I am LOVING following them all! If you haven’t checked them out, please do, they are all so inspiring.

Until next week, cheers to never-ending to-do lists, successful plumbing jobs and 50th birthdays!

Michele
