Keyless Entry Is Where It's At
After nearly four months in our new home we are finally keyless once again! Trust me when I say, once you’ve had an electronic lock or a smart lock, you never want to go back to keys again, like ever!
This time around we have installed Schlage Encode Smart Deadbolts in our home and not only are they easy to install, they are game changers! These are the third Schlage locks we have had, we started out with a Schlage Electronic lock which we loved, then we moved onto the Schlage Sense which we loved even more, but nothing prepared us for the Schlage Encode….especially my tech loving husband!

We shared a full video tutorial on Instagram last week of the easy installation of both Schlage custom door hardware and an Encode Smart Lock. Today we shared a brief recap of installation while installing a lever style handle from Schlage as well as another Encode on the back door, complete with setting it up with our preferred home hub, Alexa. (Schlage Encode also works with Google Home). We choose a lever for our back door since it is probably the most used with two dogs (one a puppy) in the house!

But let me back up….the Schlage Encode is the first smart deadbolt to have BUILT IN WIFI you guys! So you can have a smart lock and don’t need an Alexa or Google Home. You can use the lock from your smart phone or tablet.

We love our keyless entry for many reasons - walking the dogs, giving the cleaning lady her own code (that only works on assigned days/times - mind blown!), kids who always lose house keys, and i could go on and on. But the Schlage Encode offers so much more….here are a few things that we love the most about the Encode, in my husbands words because as previously mentioned, he is the tech guru around here!
“The Schlage Encode is, in my opinion, the best one yet. On the inside of the door it is smaller in size making it more aesthetically pleasing then the Schlage Sense. (I didn’t realize he noticed those things!) The Encode also seems quieter than the Sense when locking and unlocking which is a nice upgrade. What is really appealing is the built in WIFI. Whereas other Schlage smart locks require a smart home hub of some type, the Encode does not. It works right out of the box using your home wifi and the Schlage Home app. The Encode also has the one tap lock feature - you just press one button to lock the door from outside rather than entering your code. One other important feature is the built in alarm making the Encode tamperproof. And of course the Encode comes in Matte Black which is our preferred finish, or so Michele tells me”. ~ Alan

We love pairing our Schlage Encode locks with our Alexa as we work towards making our entire home a “Smart Home”. And you guys, trust me when I tell you how easy it is to pair your locks with your home hub, if I can do it, anyone can!
If you are in the market for a new smart lock we cannot recommend the Schlage Encode enough. Not only does it make life easier, it provides home security and peace of mind.
