Working From Home in Style - One Room Challenge Week One

This is our third One Room Challenge and our first not doing a bathroom...whoop whoop!  I mean we do have one bathroom left to do in this house, but it’s not on our radar right now.

What is on MY radar is the need for a home office.  I’ve had a desk here and there, it’s never permanent, it’s never big enough, it’s never comfortable. And I am ALWAYS looking for something!

We moved into this new build inventory home in December 2019 and in September 2020 we started finishing the basement.  And while I could have incorporated an office in the new space, there has always been something about this little alcove at the bottom of the basement stairs.

The Before

The Before

This alcove was finished by the builder, painted, tiled, trimmed.  It has two doors - one into the storage side and the other into the side we just finished with two bedrooms, a full bath, large rec room and wet bar.  You would think we would be tired right?  We are but the scope of the Home Office project is miniscule compared to our basement build!

Here is the plan.....

Continue the vinyl plank flooring from the rec room out into the office.  We will be installing it on top of the ceramic.  There won’t be much of a transition because we installed Dri-Core subfloor in the other side.

I plan to paint two walls “Stargazing” my new fave black by Digby Paints - also the main colour in our basement build.  The wall coming down the stairs was recently painted a lovely grieve with the rest of the stairwell, and the largest wall is going to pack the biggest punch with a peel and stick wall mural by Limitless Walls.

We will also be wiring for two sconces on the big wall and swapping out one of the last boob lights in the house. All three gorgeous fixtures are by Kichler and are being provided to us by our friends at Living Lighting - who have sponsored all of our One Room Challenge projects!  We go way back!

We have some IKEA Eket storage to build and my friends at Simple Love Furniture are upcycling a desk for me omg,

OMG and the grand finale will be the most gorgeous rug from our friends at Loloi - i’m keeping it a secret for a few more weeks! EEEK!

If this space looks half as good as I have pictured in my head, I’m gonna die!!   It’s one of my most fave projects to date!

Stick around, painting and electrical is happening now….the fun begins! And if you are looking to be inspired, go check out the featured designers AND all of the other guest participants like my self!
